EDITORIAL DESIGN CONCEPT
layout design for fictitious magazine “F Word”
F Word is a magazine concept, designed to appeal to the young modern feminist. The magazine’s zine-like aesthetic is a nod to the Riot Grrrl movement, and pays homage to the roots of third wave feminism.
Below are some sample spreads from the magazine:
This project allowed me to express my passion for feminism while focusing on the importance of confidence and mental health awareness in todays teen girls. F Word is also unique as it makes feminist theory accessible to the general public by abandoning the scholarly writing that is commonly used in the feminist sphere, and instead conveying important theories and concepts in an easily digestible format.
While creating these magazine spreads, I challenged myself to use a wide variety of articles and layout treatments. The first spread uses only typography, the second incorporates my original illustrations, and photography is heavily used in the third. All photos and copy within this project are not original content. All layouts and illustrations are by me.
